PGCE Frequently Asked Questions

PGCE Applicants

  • Q: I've made a mistake on my application - what should I do?
  • A: Please contact GTTR to inform them and for advice in the first instance, but also contact us to let us know so that we can make any necessary amendments.

  • Q: I need to change my address/telephone number/email address
  • A: Please let GTTR and us know by email.

  • Q: I want to apply for PGCE or a course leading to PGCE and I am male, does that mean it's easier for me to get a place because of the shortage of male teachers?
  • A: No - all applicants are considered on an equal basis.

  • Q: I want to apply for PGCE - what is the closing date?
  • A: You can normally apply from early September in the year before the course is due to start. The GTTR deadline for PGCE Primary applications is usually 1 December (but please check this on the GTTR website) and we usually close admissions for this course at that point.
For all Secondary and KS2/3 courses we will accept applications throughout the year if a course is still open. We do not have a deadline for applications - the courses will only close when they are full or prior to the course start date in September. These courses may also be available in clearing.

  • Q: I'm not sure which PGCE to choose, can you help?
  • A: Unfortunately, our staff are not able to provide advice on which course you should apply for as this should be a decision made by the applicant following in-depth research on our website and visits to our open days, open evenings and other taster events. If you are interested in attending these events, please take a look at the BSU 'Open Days' web page for more information and booking.

  • Q: Who will be assessing my application?
  • A: Your application will be viewed by trained admissions staff and the academic staff who run the course. The academic staff will also conduct the interviews. Our staff are professionals who are up to date with current practice and opportunities within their fields.

  • Q: What do you need from me?
  • A: As we will contact you predominantly by email, please ensure that you check your email account regularly and inform GTTR if you change your email address. Please also check your junk mail! As we want to process your application as quickly as possible, it is important that you reply to us with any information we require as quickly as you can. We will not be able to continue to process your application until we hear from you. Please ensure that you read our emails and any instructions sent to you very carefully, complete any forms sent to you fully and return them to us in the way we ask you to when we send the request.
