Kim Goddard

BA (Hons) Media Communications and Cultural Studies 2005 to 2008
Horseworld is a charity that works to rescue and rehome horses. Kim joined Horseworld in 2005 and worked for them throughout her time at BSU (3 yrs) on a part time basis in term time and full time during the vacations. She originally applied to be a Catering Assistant, but before too long was asked to work in the Visitor Centre/Shop. She was often Duty Manager of the Visitor Centre at weekends, managing 2 staff members.
On her time there she has this to say: "As Horseworld is a fairly small Charity/organisation the atmosphere is always relaxed and friendly. My job there is extremely varied, with each working day bringing a new challenge! My role as General Assistant can range from working on the tills to helping manage the birthday parties/arts and craft room. I have learnt lots of people/communication skills, customer service skills as well as gaining knowledge of the office/IT skills, marketing, management and time management, (in that I have to structure my study time around my working commitments too)."
Kim's long term career plan after graduation, based on her experiences at Horseworld, was to get a marketing role within the charity sector. She assisted the marketing dept there with internal promotional material such as birthday party leaflets and posters.
Update - After graduating Kim was offered a full-time position with Horseworld running their Marketing Department! She contacted us to thank us for our help saying "I would like to thank the Job Shop and careers service staff at BSU, as without them, I wouldn't have had the confidence to go for this full-time role."
