Short course

    Experience the techniques of printmaking, including Intaglio and drypoint, relief printing, linocut and embossing, on this two-day workshop.

    • Discover the techniques of printmaking, including Intaglio and drypoint, linocut, embossing, and relief printing.
    • Work with experienced local printmaker Jane Shaw at our Etching and Lithography studio in central Bath.
    • Access Bath School of Art and Design's superb facilities and study in the heart of Bath.

    Relief printing is a versatile technique with a range of methods to achieve a stunning result.

    In this two-day masterclass with experienced printmaker Jane Shaw, you'll experience the techniques of Intaglio and drypoint, relief printing, lino, and embossing.

    About your tutor

    Jane has worked in London and Bath as a freelance illustrator and artist for over 25 years. She has worked in further and higher education and is now combining her independent freelance work with the position of Printmaking Technical Demonstrator at Bath Spa University.


    What you'll do

    Day one

    • Relief print

    Day two

    • Etching

    Suitable for beginners and intermediate learners. Please bring sketches, photos and ideas to transform into beautiful prints.


    The course will take place in the Etching and Lithography department, Sion Hill campus.


    The fee for the programme is £120 inclusive of both days' tuition and printing materials.

    What to bring

    Please wear old clothing and closed footwear (no open sandals), and if you have long hair, this must be tied back for safety reasons.

    You'll also need an image to work from, and/or a sketchbook, notebook, pencils, and an A3 portfolio or folder to take your work home.

    You can bring your own lunch, or eat at Café Sion. Light refreshments are provided.
