Two Bath Spa Artists Selected for Bath Society Summer Open ExhibitionSaturday 20 May, 2017 – Saturday 15 July, 2017
10:30 PM – 5:00 PM
Victoria Art Gallery, by Pulteney Bridge, Bath, BA2 4AT
Wen Hsi’s ceramic work; Into the Blue, and Kieran’s painting; View of the Tate Modern have both been chosen for the annal exhibition, which opens this weekend.
Wen Hsi’s piece is inspired by a field trip to Taiwan, where she saw Taiwanese indigenous Amis women using their fingers to push and pinch clay to form their pottery. She created the work using her fingers, echoing the Amis methods and integrating in her own identity (a common theme in her work) via her fingerprints.
Kieran’s painting was also the result of a field trip. It is based on a photograph he took from the Tate Modern, during a university trip. It has also recently won him the Lyn Painter-Stainers People’s Award and in fact will be replaced temporarily in the Victoria Art Gallery, by another of his paintings, so that he can take it to London for the award ceremony! This is the third year running that Kieran has had work selected for the Summer Open exhibition.
The exhibition opens with a Private View on Friday 19 May and continues 20 May to 15 July at Victoria Art Gallery in Bath.
