Bath Spa Equality Week: Compassion in Action

Bath Spa’s Equality Week is back with a programme of free events. This year we’re talking on a range of challenging topics, exploring the importance of compassion, solidarity, and building communities in equality and inclusion work.


The Transgender Issue: An Argument for Justice with Shon Faye

Date: Monday 7 March, 5:00-6:30pm at NPCMG23 (capacity 60) 

Opening this year's Equality Week programme, we'll be joined by Shon Faye to talk about her landmark book The Transgender Issue, and explore why compassion and solidarity with the trans liberation movement is vital to fighting injustice. The Transgender Issue is a manifesto for change and a call for justice and solidarity between all marginalized people and minorities.

There will be an opportunity for audience questions, and to get your own copy of The Transgender Issue signed!


International Women's Day Roundtable: Kindness, Compassion, and Making an Impact (Bath Spa only)

Date: Tuesday 8 March, 11am-12pm Online

Kindness and compassion have been championed as key values whilst navigating the pandemic, but what does this mean in practice, and how has this impacted women? Professor Christina Hughes, feminist author and founder of Women-Space, joins us for a roundtable chat about compassion, women, and making a difference. What do we think would be game changers and how might we approach these?


International Women's Day South West conference

Date: Tuesday 8 March, 12-2:30pm Online

An International Women's Day online conference in collaboration with organisations across the South West. This event will include a talk from psychologist Dr. Linda Papadopolos on the impact of the pandemic on women, and author and wellbeing coach Gifty Enright on 'How to fix the broken rung'.


Changing Bath Spa's Culture: An equality strategy session with Ama Afrifa-Tchie (Bath Spa only)

Date: Wednesday 9 March, 1-2pm Online

Ama Afrifa-Tchie, Culture and Inclusion Expert, will be joined by a panel of BSU staff and student representatives to talk about embedding equality and inclusion, and creating long term culture change at Bath Spa University. This event is open to all staff and students, and is designed to be an opportunity to challenge and learn from current Bath Spa practice, explore what inclusion and equity means at Bath Spa, and start building a shared vision for the future.


Disability, Solidarity, and Difficult Conversations with Cathy Reay

Date: Thursday 10 March, 1-2pm Online

Cathy Reay is a writer, editor, and disability consultant, who will be joining us to talk about her own experiences, the importance of talking openly about disability, and how effective solidarity with liberation movements comes from being able to make mistakes.


Equality Week Roundtable: Is sustainability an equality issue?

Date: Friday 11 March, 12-1pm Online

In this interactive roundtable event, we'll be joined by environmental activists, researchers, and creatives to explore the connections between equality and sustainability, and building solidarity in the climate justice movement.

Date: Friday 11 March, 2-3pm Online

In this interactive roundtable event, we'll be joined by activists, educators, and researchers to explore how alternative approaches to education and how we engage children in equality issues can form the basis for creating a more equal, sustainable, and compassionate future.
