The Museum Box Project: Something of Place and Library of Pilgrimages

Saturday 9 September, 2017 – Saturday 4 November, 2017

Bath Spa artists Lydia Halcrow (current PhD student) and Dr Michelle Whiting (PhD alumna and current tutor on MA Curatorial Practice) are currently exhibiting in a dual exhibition at Town Hall Arts in Trowbridge.

Working as part of Space Place Practice collective, both artists are exhibiting work in each of the shows: The Museum Box Project: Something of Place, and Library of Pilgrimages

The Museum Box Project, co-created by Michele, builds on a research seminar in which each member of the collective brought 'something of place' with them and took away a museum box in which or with which to develop their connections with these items and places. The exhibition showcases these places as finished artworks for exhibition.

Created by Lydia, in conjunction with Trowbridge Arts, Library of Pilgrimages is inspired by the Robert Macfarlane’s description of the artist Miguel Angel Blanco’s Library of the Forest. Members of the group each created a mini-installation on the theme of a personal pilgrimage. Each artist has put a special interaction with a space or a place in the small confines of a foolscap filing box. Each response records how we endow places with special responses and recognises how a place may be integrated into our own inner landscape. This gathering of boxes records an intensity of feeling and responses to place that becomes the beginning of another pilgrimage.

Both shows run until Saturday 4 November, at Town Hall Arts, Trowbridge Town Hall, BA14 8EQ

Opening times:
10am - 4pm Monday - Friday
10am - 2pm Saturdays
Closed Sundays
