Bath Spa University Art and Design students showcase stunning works at 2018 Undergraduate Degree ShowWednesday, 30 May, 2018
Original works of stunning art and design will be on show this June as Bath Spa University’s Sion Hill campus opens its doors to the public to celebrate the annual Bath School of Art and Design Undergraduate Degree Show (9 – 17 June).
The work of graduating students will be displayed across the campus for the nine-day exhibition. Selected items, designed and developed by those from the Contemporary Arts Practice; Creative Arts; Fashion Design; Fine Art; Graphic Communication; Photography; Textile Design for Fashion and Interiors; Three Dimensional Design; and Fashion and Textiles Design Skills courses will be on display for all to enjoy.
Professor Anita Taylor, Executive Dean of Bath School of Art and Design said: “The exhibition celebrates the many excellent and diverse creative accomplishments of our undergraduate students in art and design. The event provides a public platform to celebrate the significant achievements of this highly talented group of emerging artists and designers.
“The Degree Shows are a wonderful showcase for the talent, skills and creativity of each graduating student, who have worked hard to evolve and to realise their ideas through creative practice, and have formed firm foundations for their future careers or further study during their time at the University.”
The exhibition is free to attend and will be open to the public daily from 10:00am until 5:00pm at the Sion Hill campus, Bath School of Art and Design at Bath Spa University, from 9 – 17 June 2018.
Final year Bath Spa University Fine Art student William Hughes will be exhibiting five pieces of work at the Show. He added: “I’m very excited about the upcoming Degree Show. I enjoy creating expanded illustrations, 3D objects and machines based on ideas from my own personal experiences and my view of the world. One aspect of my work entails reflecting on body image, and how we as humans view ourselves. I have an emotional connection to my work so knowing people will see it on display at the Show is something I’m really proud of.
“I chose to study at Bath Spa University because of the amazing range of facilities that are available including those for woodwork, metalwork and sculpture, which are all integral to my practice. Studying Fine Art has really allowed me to express myself through my work which I have found to be very therapeutic. Meeting people who are as creative and driven as me has been a particular highlight of my experience and I’m looking forward to seeing all of our work on display as a mark of celebration of our years of studying.”
Established in 1852, the Bath School of Art and Design is proud of its longstanding reputation for educating the next generation of artists and designers, and those employed in related fields, many of whom significantly contribute to the UK’s thriving creative economy.
The Sion Hill campus is situated in the picturesque World Heritage City of Bath and houses a wide range of specialist art and design studios and workshops, as well as a lecture theatre, the art and design library and an art materials shop. Additional facilities for the Art and Design students are located at The Circus, Palace Yard Mews, and Dartmouth Avenue.
The Bath School of Art and Design is in an exciting phase of development, as work to transform the former Herman Miller furniture factory on Locksbrook Campus in Bath into a new art and design campus is well underway. A ground breaking ceremony was held earlier this year to mark the start of the refurbishment work of the iconic Grade II listed building designed by Sir Nicholas Grimshaw in the 1970s. The new art and design building is due to be completed for September 2019, and will provide a state-of-the-art learning environment.
