Academic receives Continuing Professional Development Award from Science Council

Monday, 7 December, 2020

Dr Sarah Earle, Reader in Education at Bath Spa University, has received a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Award from the Science Council.

One Chartered Science Teacher (CSciTeach) is selected each year to be commended for outstanding professional development in science.

In lieu of an award ceremony this year, winners were asked to take a photograph with their certificate for Twitter and their top tips were shared on the Science Council website.

Sarah’s top tips are:

  • Be strategic: You can’t do everything, so to help you decide which things to ‘say yes’ to, think about your goal: what are you aiming to do? Will this help?
  • Side-step out of your comfort zone: Try something new in a familiar context, or try something familiar in a new context (for example an old strategy with a new class/group).
  • Be Brave: Don’t assume that others are doing what you are. Sharing your experience will support others.

Sarah said: “It's great to be recognised for all of the hard work. Supporting the professional learning of others is really good professional development for me - especially at the moment as we move everything online and find new ways to support each other.”

The Science Council provides the quality assurance system for those working in science. It sets the standards for professional registration for practising scientists and science technicians across all scientific disciplines.
