Budding textiles ‘Designers in the Making’ sell hand-crafted wares at Bath Christmas MarketTuesday, 4 December, 2018
Students from Bath Spa University’s BA Textile Design for Fashion and Interiors course have swapped seminars for a stall this December as their hand-made creations have gone on sale at this year’s Bath Christmas Market.
The team of students, made up of screen printers, knitters, hand painters and crafters - known collectively as ‘Designers in the Making’ - have put their heads together to produce the perfect festive finds including jewellery, make-up bags, cushions and prints, which will be on sale until Sunday 9 December.
The students are also selling Christmas cards and wrapping paper to help shoppers find everything they need all under one roof, with some designs even incorporating an eye-catching animal-themed twist.
Jasmine Broadbent, Textile Design for Fashion and Interiors student, said: “We are all very excited to have the opportunity to display our work at an event as big as the Bath Christmas Market and we are so pleased to be part of such a talented community.
“Each member of the team has explored techniques within their chosen field to create exciting products to showcase and there has been a wide scope of inspiration. Some of our Christmas cards and wrapping paper have been influenced by animals such as peacocks, pheasants, cows and giraffes, so there’s something for everyone.
“We know the knowledge and experience we will gain from this will be invaluable and we can’t wait to see what people think of the products we’ve created with them in mind.”
The BA Textile Design for Fashion and Interiors course offers students the opportunity to explore a variety of techniques during the beginning of the course, including print, embroidery, knitting and weaving with students ultimately specialising in one area during their final year.
