MA Creative Writing graduate’s debut novel explores love and taxidermyThursday, 12 November, 2020
Another successful Bath Spa University graduate is adding her novel to the bookshelf.
Polly Hall, who graduated with an MA in Creative Writing in 2016, will see her debut novel, The Taxidermist’s Lover, published by CamCat Books on 8 December.
Describing the moment when she learned her book had been accepted for publication, Polly said: "When my publisher replied to say 'yes' to my debut novel, something in me woke up and I thought, my god, I am finally being what I'm meant to be - a writer.”
The novel began as a short story, exploring the relationship between a young woman and her taxidermist lover in the Somerset countryside. The story evolved into something more haunting and profound as Polly became fascinated by taxidermy and its growing popularity as a modern art form. She worked on the novel during her MA and it became her final manuscript submission.
Polly has been published in various anthologies and won competitions for her poetry and flash fiction. A longstanding member of Somerset Writers’ group, she also teaches creative writing workshops. You can find out more about her writing projects on her website.
