Sam joined Bath Spa as Energy Performance Officer in 2017, working towards improving the energy efficiency of all the University’s sites and monitoring all energy data.
He is responsible for the regular monitoring and targeting of energy consumption and reduction at Bath Spa which involves analysing and reporting on all energy data to identify opportunities for reductions and verify savings made from previous energy reduction measures. As part of this Sam looks after the energy metering systems in place around the campuses in order to ensure that reliable and accurate data is available to feed into the verification process and inform the feasibility of future project applicability, design and implementation.
Sam works closely with members of the University’s Estates team as well as external stakeholders to ensure the efficient running of the multi-site Building Management System and the Newton Park campus district heating networks along with a number of other systems. He also designs energy saving projects and initiatives that further reduce the University’s carbon emissions. This involves measures such as, optimising systems to run as efficiently as possible and investigating the potential for installing new technologies to reduce consumption.
Before joining Bath Spa University, Sam worked for retail property company Hammerson as an Environmental and Community Coordinator at a large regional shopping centre. This involved managing all environmental related activities and impacts and ensuring compliance with all relevant environmental legislation as well as leading on all community based activities and engagement.
