Artist's statement

My work is about exploring the category of a ceramic object. I am interested in the way a functional ceramic piece changes meaning when placed within a sculptural context.

I find inspiration in forms from ceramics history and reimagine them as sculptures. When thinking through the object, I reverse its form from three dimensional to two and back, applying symmetry throughout. This making process informs me of possible outcomes, and produces new shapes to be explored further.

In this way, making never stops, as objects are placed in contrast or unity with each other, until they become new multi-object constructions.
