Ania's international story
Overall, I found the Erasmus experience to be motivating, inspiring and educational.
To begin with I found it easy to communicate with the university and with the other Erasmus students. However as I immersed myself into the local culture and the local students, the language barrier became more of a problem ... because the local language was Catalan - not Spanish. I believe I settled in well because I was curious about the culture and the lifestyle.
Apart from my studies, I was asked to babysit two young children with the specific aim to teach them English through play. I also became involved in a local Karate club. As part of an existing interest, this has helped me to immerse myself more deeply into the local community, culture and language and provided a social aspect to my experience.
My advice to others would be - when you know you have your placement, try to find out something about the local culture and language, Most importantly, arrive with an open mind and curiosity to learn more. Try to socialise with students other than the Erasmus cadre, which will give you a better insight to the culture.

What did you learn?
This programme provided me with many different opportunities, including a school placement, giving presentation to a group of Catalan students about my Erasmus experience and giving a talk in a local Secondary School. These opportunities have redirected my interest in studies for next year, to the point where I have included an Education element into my degree.
As an ´aside´ to my studies I was asked to teach English to a local businessman to help him communicate with foreign companies. This involved planning, preparing and delivering lessons on specific topics and themes.
