Artist's statement

With an overlying interest in communication, Anna Kot’s main concern is the creation of an image as an object in its own right and believes this to be the central element in the trichotomy of communication – the message between the creator and the viewer.

Anna is aware that this message acts as the means by which the artist chooses what to present to the world, but which the viewer responds to in their own way. Incorporating the gestural and unplanned marks alongside the structural elements of visual language demonstrates how successful communication requires both these aspects, while also highlighting the instability of rules and the inconsistency of meaning.
