Cathrine's international story

I’m from Oslo, Norway, and moved to Bath for university. My original plan was to go back home after graduation, but as I was offered a job I decided to stay in Bath for a bit longer... I've been here 5 years now and still love this city!

The degree gave me the ability to undertake an enormous project - to plan out the scope of work, conduct market research, and work independently towards various self-imposed deadlines to see the project through to completion.

During my course I spent an awful lot of time proofreading and editing other people’s work, so I can spot a typo or grammatical error a mile away which is very useful in my line of work as a Creative Director at Catalyst Social Media.

At my work, we help companies use social media effectively to coordinate offline and online marketing strategies, raise awareness, encourage sales and website traffic etc. We have local, national and international clients of all sizes.

"No matter where I went I would always bump into friends, housemates or people on my course. Even in the bus queue."

Why did you decide to study in the UK at Bath Spa University?

I fell in love with the Bath Spa University's campus on the Open Day - it’s open, green and vibrant, not to mention the fact that the surrounding area is a working farm! For me it was really important to enjoy being on campus, as I was going to spend a huge chunk of my next three years there.

I chose the Creative Writing course because Bath Spa is known as a creative university and its Creative Writing tutors are all published writers ,so they know what they are talking about. I also liked the choice of modules.

What is your advice to other international students considering studying at Bath Spa University?

Use the Job Shop to get part-time and volunteer work while you’re studying. Employers will want to see lots of work experience when you graduate! Also, take advantage of the training courses offered, such as InDesign and Photoshop.

''The best thing about Bath Spa University...''

Was the social aspect - no matter where I went I would always bump into friends, housemates or people on my course. Even in the bus queue.

"I recommend Bath Spa University because ... "

Instead of listening to someone talk about writing, I spent my time reading, writing and discussing ideas with my peers. It was also a great way to build confidence in my own writing and public reading.
