Course studied: MA Creative Writing
Graduating year: 2020

David was born and raised in Northfield, Birmingham. He worked for the NHS for fifteen years before becoming a writer. Since then, he has enjoyed running a monthly writing group, creating a literary magazine and teaching creative writing at university level. Growing up, David never saw himself or anybody he knew represented fairly, if at all, in fiction. He hopes to write the book that he wanted to read when he was young.

Off at the Next Stop is a literary novel set in working-class Birmingham in 2005. It depicts the journey of seventeen-year-old Adam Miller, who drops out of school to follow the girl he is in love with away from their council estate. While Tegan thrives, Adam struggles to adapt to the expectations and affluence of his new surroundings, and when his life at the estate pulls him back, he learns that he will need to understand who he is and where he is from to get what he really needs.
