Country travelled to: Finland
University: University of Eastern Finland
Florence Hardiman completed a Erasmus during her time as a Bath Spa University student.
Florence's international story
When I first arrived it was quite tough because I was in a new environment, not knowing anyone and not being able to speak the language. However the University made it really easy to meet people and all the classes were in English.
There were a number of trips arranged by ESN (Erasmus Student Network) so you get to go to countries a lot cheaper than it would be if you were doing it on your own. I was able to visit Russia (visa free trip!), Lapland and Stockholm. The trips allow you to make really good friends and experience some amazing places.
It's an experience where you are friends with students all over Europe, in fact, I was the only English person in my friendship group. I was also able to observe Finnish schools and live in the most beautiful place with a lake as my back garden.
"Erasmus is the biggest achievement of my life - living in another country for 4 months. I made such a connection with Finland."
Where did you travel to?
Which institution did you attend?
University of Eastern Finland.
What did you learn?
Erasmus is the biggest achievement of my life - living in another country for 4 months. I made such a connection with Finland. However, I do realise all Erasmus experiences are different but mine was a time for me to really grow in confidence, get fit walking an hour through the forests daily and meet some wonderful students and teachers. It has been contributed to my assignments back in Bath too, and I am so thankful I did it!"
