When Jess left Bath Spa University, she did not have a clear career path in mind but her degree prepared her for the world of work. For example, her second year work placement module gave her experience of working in an office environment, and her work ethic was developed by meeting deadlines at university. She has worked for various companies, including Wessex Searches, and the Ministry of Justice, and has recently been promoted to Senior Transfers Administrator at AJ Bell.
When I first left Bath Spa I did not have a clear career path in mind, but I knew I wanted to get into the working world straight away. I found it very difficult to get a job and feedback from interviews suggested I needed more work experience. I decided to work as a temporary worker at first which then turned into a permanent job with the firm and taking me on full time. Just over a year ago I moved away from Bath back to my hometown in Kent and although I am still not working in an area in relation to my degree, my experience at Bath Spa has helped me in other ways.
For example, my work placement module in second year helped me get a feel of working in an office environment. Additionally, from my degree my work ethic still continues working hard to meet deadlines and keen to keep improving myself.
"Get as much work experience as possible, do extra-curricular activities, internships or placements because employers nowadays are looking for more than just a degree."

''My advice for current students is ...''
To make the most of the experience. Get as much work experience as possible, do extra-curricular activities, internships or placements because employers nowadays are looking for more than just a degree. My other advice is to just enjoy yourself, times may get tough but I have made friends and memories that I will never forget.
''The best thing about the course I studied was ...''
The range of subject areas that are available. The modules were designed so that no two modules are the same, which is really enjoyable and gives your studies diversity. But at the same time, certain aspects of one module can further your understanding in another.
Additionally, the lecturers are so supportive and make the courses enjoyable. The grounds of Bath Spa helped to.
''I recommend Bath Spa because ...''
They are devoted in progressing your career and making your three years as comfortable as it can be. It is small and friendly and not overwhelming. The lecturers are approachable and knowledgeable. I had a fantastic three years there, and sometimes I wish I could do it again.
