Course studied: BA Creative Studies in English and Media Communications
Graduating year: 2007
Job: JobShop Coordinator at Bath Spa University
Pandora knew that she wanted to go into marketing communications when she graduated from Bath Spa University. Her first graduate role was a PR and Marketing Executive at an international IT company. After a few years, she moved to Australia and worked there for 2 years in marketing. Back in the UK, she is now JobShop Coordinator at Bath Spa University.
Since I left Bath Spa University, I have been lucky enough to work in a variety of roles which has allowed me to gain some great experience, meeting some lovely people along the way. Knowing that I wanted to go into marketing communications (as I felt it combined what I had learnt in Creative Studies in English and Media Comms well), I managed to secure my first graduate job in March 2008, 8 months after graduating.
My combined degree and work experience gave me this stepping stone into the working world, plus my manager at the time choosing to give me a break and take a chance on me (something I will always be grateful for). I worked as a PR and Marketing Executive for an international IT company. Once I had gained a few years experience in this field, I was able to move up the career ladder, gradually taking on roles which gave me extra responsibility and I started branching out into Social Media, email marketing and website management. My experience in this area also allowed me to move to Australia for 2 years and quickly find employment.
After 7 years in the Marketing industry, I decided to change the direction of my career. I loved the creative side of marketing, however my role at the time had started to move into a sales orientated position. After taking some time out to have my daughter, I saw the Job Shop Coordinator role had become available. I saw this as a perfect opportunity to go back to my old university which had helped me so much and where I had such fond memories.
My present role involves helping students gain part-time work experience, adding value to their CV and helping to prepare them for graduation. It still involves a lot of creativity and communication which is what I loved about marketing and it allows me to help students who I feel I can really relate to as I was once in their shoes at the very same university.
