Will's international story

The first thing I would say to anyone considering the Erasmus programme is simply ‘Do it!’ Of all my experiences at University, of which there are many to choose from, spending time studying abroad is by far my favourite. It is the one I feel will stay with me the longest; not to mention the huge amount it’s enhanced my CV.

All of the things you might consider ‘barriers’ to going abroad really aren’t in the Erasmus scheme: Language, Finance, Accommodation, Academics, Social life, all of them are covered in one way or another so you really have no excuses! I think some people also have a fear that if they go abroad, foreign Institutions will not look after you as a student. This couldn’t be more wrong. University of Vic hosted all incoming students incredibly well. The mentor system was perfect and they organised more than enough events, day and night to really embed you into University life and the local culture. In the end they want you to leave saying good things about them, so they show themselves off as much as they can.

Summed up, the experiences you’ll have, and the people you’ll be sharing them with will literally be a world class opportunity. Living with and studying alongside like-minded people from all over the globe, even for just 5 months, leaves you with a massive sense of fulfillment. Get on that plane!
