Whether you've got a clear idea about what you want to do, or don’t have a clue, don’t worry – help is at hand.

From choosing a career or business opportunity, through to skills development, help with applications, interviews, finding jobs, or looking at postgraduate study, we’ll help you explore your options in an impartial and confidential way.

"We’ll give you the confidence and knowledge to articulate your skills and experiences, whatever your destination."

We run over 50 free workshops each term, including creative CVs, how to get the most out of LinkedIn and preparing for assessment centres.

As a student, you'll be able to book onto any of our workshops and seminars, browse our events, submit a question or book a one-to-one appointment with our consultants on our career portal MyCareer.

We’ll give you the confidence and knowledge to articulate your skills and experiences, whatever your destination.

  • Volunteer roles that will build your work experience and enhance your employability.

If you need help or advice, you'll be able to visit us at one of our drop-in sessions, which run three times a week during term time. We can also offer tips on improving your applications, including your CV and cover letters. You don't need to book an appointment – just turn up.

Get a placement or internship

Gain work experience to enhance your CV and improve your career prospects.

More than a third of all entry-level vacancies in 2015 were filled by graduates who had already worked for an organisation through paid internships, industrial placements or vacation work. This means it’s more important than ever to secure a placement opportunity while you're studying.

Work experience ranges from a few weeks to a few months, and comes in many shapes and forms, from placements and internships to sandwich years. Whatever your work experience goals, we can help you.

For more information, email placements@bathspa.ac.uk.

Meet employers on campus

Introduce yourself to potential employers at one of the many employer visits each year, or at our autumn Careers and Opportunities Fair. Large organisations targeting Bath Spa students and graduates include the National Trust, Nationwide, PwC, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, the NHS and Teach First – but we also have close links with many hundreds of small/medium enterprises and start-ups in the region.

Having won 14 BAFTAs and four Oscars, the Bath and Bristol area is a key centre for TV, film and animation, as well as its associated technology and support services. The region is a hub for creative, digital and entrepreneurial talent – it’s no wonder more than half of our alumni stay in the region after they graduate.

Get ahead

Bath Spa Awards

When you’re in your second or third year, or are a postgraduate student, you can take part in our flagship employability award. It’s a great way to show employers what else you've achieved alongside your studies.

Current second or third year and postgraduate students can find out more information about Bath Spa Award and register via MyCareer.

In your first year? You can take part in the Head Start Award, which is designed specifically to support students to make the most of their first year, settle into university life, and start exploring future options. Current first years can find out more and register via MyCareer.

Wondering how you'll bridge the gap between university and employment? A number of our final year undergraduate students take advantage of our Industry Mentor Scheme to network and learn from people in industry over a six-month period. The aim of the scheme is to raise your sights and broaden your horizons in terms of career goals, while developing knowledge, skills and personal qualities that are valued by employers.

Many students go on to carry out work experience or a placement with their mentor.

Previous mentors have come from a range of industries – they've included:

  • Anthem Publishing
  • Bath Festivals
  • Bath and North East Somerset Council
  • Speed Communications
  • The Travelling Light Theatre Company.

Become a global graduate

Bath Spa’s Certificate in Global Citizenship recognises your studies in global issues and gives you a means of demonstrating them to employers.

If you’re a full-time undergraduate student starting your first year of a Bath Spa University undergraduate degree course, you can apply for the Global Citizenship Programme which you’ll study alongside your degree. You’ll gain global awareness and add an international dimension to your student experience.

The programme recognises the global perspective of undergraduate studies and could open up opportunities for you in the global employment market.

On successful completion of the programme you’ll be awarded a Certificate in Global Citizenship.
