Additional funding sources

Here are a few additional scholarships and funding options offered by various organisations.

One of these may help you fund your studies at Bath Spa University, however we can't advise you on applying for these external scholarships. Please contact the institutions directly.

External scholarships

BUTEX Scholarship

Each year BUTEX awards a number of scholarships to students studying abroad for either a semester or for a whole academic year. The value of each scholarship is £500 and will be paid to the winners once they have arrived and registered at their host university.

Chevening Scholarships

Chevening Scholarships is the UK government’s global scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations. The programme makes awards to outstanding scholars with leadership potential from around the world to study postgraduate courses at universities in the UK. Chevening Scholars come from 118 countries worldwide (excluding the USA and the EU), and this year the Scholarships will support more than 600 individuals. There are over 42,000 Chevening alumni around the world who together comprise an influential and highly regarded global network. The programme provides full or part funding for full time courses at postgraduate level, normally a one-year Master’s degree, in any subject and at any UK university.

DIKTI Scholarship Programme

The Indonesia-UK DIKTI Scholarship Programme is open for lecturers at Indonesian universities and administrative staff at DIKTI and Indonesian state universities to undertake postgraduate study. All academic subjects are considered for full funding under the DIKTI scheme. The programme will fund up to 750 academics to come and study in the UK over the next five years.

Marshall Scholarships

Up to forty scholars from the USA are selected each year to study at graduate level at a UK institution in any field of study.

As future leaders with a lasting understanding of British society, Marshall Scholars strengthen the enduring relationship between the British and American peoples, their governments and their institutions. Marshall Scholars are talented, independent and wide-ranging, and their time as Scholars enhances their intellectual and personal growth. Their direct engagement with Britain through its best academic programmes contributes to their ultimate personal success.

Master's Compare Postgraduate Scholarship

Master's Compare offers an opportunity to win a £5,000 scholarship towards a full time or part time Master's course. The draw is open to UK, EU and international fee paying students. 

How to apply

Rugby Warfare Scholarship

University can be a tough time financially for students and it's also hard to stay fit and healthy with all the social pressures around them. Rugby Warfare is offering £500 to the scholarship winner, twice per year. The winner will also receive a free bundle of clothing that can be worn in and out of the gym, around campus etc.

The South, West and Wales Doctoral Training Partnership Studentship Competition

The SWW DTP is funded by and works in partnership with the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC).

The AHRC funds postgraduate training and research in the arts and humanities, from archaeology and English literature to design and dance. The quality and range of research supported not only provides social and cultural benefits but also contributes to the economic success of the UK.

The AHRC provides funding for a portfolio of programmes that are designed to support the best of UK research, and the development of a world-class research base.

External loans

Erasmus+ Master Loan Guarantee Scheme

The Erasmus+ Master loan aims to give graduates access to more affordable loans to study for a Master's degree in another country. This scheme is managed by the European Investment Fund (EIF) on behalf of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Education and Culture. The loan will help Master's students with their living and tuition costs when studying in a different country from their country of residence.

To be eligible to apply for a loan, you must be a resident of an EU Member State or one of the five non-EU participating countries.
