It’s Green Week at Bath Spa! Even though we celebrate and promote sustainability every day, this week we’re putting it front and centre.
To celebrate Green Week, from 24-28 April there will be a range of activities taking place for both staff and students, from wildlife walks and book swaps, to bike health checks and campus clean-ups, and more.
Here are just some of the activities taking place this week in our Bath Spa community.
Allotment Afternoon
Did you know we have an allotment space (and an Allotment Group!) at Bath Spa? The allotments are free for anyone who wants to join and have a go growing their own fruit and veg! You don’t need any growing experience or knowledge. This week we’re inviting staff and students to come along and see the space available and test out their green thumbs.
Dr Bike and Bike Tagging
For our avid cyclists, we’re offering free bike health checks from Dr Bike. They’ll do a basic maintenance check on your bike and advise on repairs. And to help keep your bike safe, we’re offering a free Bike Tagging Session with Avon and Somerset Police. When your bike is tagged, it’s put on a register which makes it easier to find if it gets stolen or lost.
Wonderful Wildlife
The Avon and Somerset Wildlife Trust will have an information stand at our Newton Park campus to talk about the work they do in the area and answer questions - or to just have a chat!
Our wonderful Groundskeeper will also lead a walk around Newton Park to identify our wildlife and answer questions about our inspiring (and very well-kept) grounds.
Waste not on Wednesday!
Wednesday 26 April is Stop Food Waste Day. Did you know? We're doing our bit to fight food waste with Too Good To Go.
You'll find our Refectory on the Too Good To Go app, where you can rescue magic bags of surplus, unsold food - at a great price - so it gets eaten instead of wasted. It’s certainly proven to be a hit with students!
Swap Shops
If you have old clothes, books or other items you no longer use, don’t throw them out. Bring them along to a swap instead! This week we’ll be holding several clothing and book swaps on our campuses, so staff and students can pick up something new without having to spend any money. Plus, it keeps perfectly good stuff out of the landfill and gives it a new life.
Big Clean Up
We’re lucky that our campuses are surrounded by beautiful environments, from the lush green countryside at Newton Park to the picturesque riverside at Locksbrook Campus. To help our green spaces stay that way, we’ll be cleaning up the riverbank on Thursday with the Student Community Partnership.
Sustainability is no mean feat, but as a community we’re doing all we can to meet our green credentials, today, and for the future! Find out more about Sustainability initiatives at Bath Spa.
