Introduction

Following two rounds of public consultation, the University has received formal planning permission from Bath & North East Somerset Council to begin construction of the new Academic Building.

Construction Timetable for Academic Building
Key Milestones
3 January 2012
- Tree removal and relocation.
- Minimal surveying which will be comparable to usual maintenance.
2 - 21 April 2012
- Enabling works such as ground clearing and relocation of the generator.
- Initial work takes place over the Easter holidays to minimise disruption.
June - July 2012
- Hoardings go up to carefully enclose the building work and minimise disruption.
- Hoardings will be up in time for graduation.
Mid June 2012
- The major demolition works and digging out of the basement begin.
- This takes place over the summer holidays to avoid disruption during term time.
- Includes the demolition of Doynton, Nevill and Hungerford buildings.
Autumn Term 2012
- Construction will begin.
- Delivery of materials will be carefully controlled to avoid busy arrival and departure times.
Early 2013
- Rapid progress of the outer shell. This will minimise disruption by containing works within the new structure.
Spring 2014
- Building complete.
