Locksbrook Lates
Creativity comes alive after hours at our Locksbrook Campus.
Locksbrook Lates are free evening events at Locksbrook Campus, welcoming staff, students and our community together to spend time in the University's creative spaces after hours. You don't need any connection to Bath Spa University to attend. These events are open to all.
Arts and culture are not a luxury, they are essential.
Taking place regularly throughout the year, Locksbrook Lates are relaxed, social occasions where you can drop in at any point from 5–8pm. There's no need to book in advance – whether you stay for five minutes or the whole night, you're very welcome.
What to expect
Each Locksbrook Late brings together:
- Featured activities – hands-on making sessions, artist talks, exhibitions and glimpses into the creative work happening across our studios and workshops. Every event is different.
- Live music or DJ sets – a friendly, informal atmosphere.
- Campus bar – open all evening, with drinks available to purchase.
Previous Lates have included a Winter Makers Market, gallery openings and Design School talks. It's a chance to experience contemporary creative practice and research, meet artists and designers, and discover what's possible in these spaces.
All activities are free to take part in.
Under-18s are welcome when accompanied by an adult.
Upcoming events
Locksbrook Late 07: Meet the Makers – 11 June 2026
Join us for an evening of conversation, creativity and celebration. Throughout the evening, there will be makers’ talks from graduating artists and designers, offering insight into their processes, ideas and practices.
This year’s Meet the Makers speakers are:
- Millie Duckworth (BA Fine Art)
- Beth Flanders (BA Fine Art)
- Tegean Hughs (BA Interior Design)
- Elizabeth Royle (BA Creative Arts Practice)
Try your hand at building kinetic objects, stepping into a mythological narrative, peering at everyday materials through a new lens, or composing a digital interior from scratch. Come and learn new skills, spark your own ideas, and be part of conversations that matter.
The Undergraduate Degree Show will be open throughout the event, giving visitors the chance to explore the work on display, and a bar will be available across the evening.
- Entry is free and open to all, including the public.
- Activities take place from 5pm-8pm.
- Location: Locksbrook Campus, BA1 3ELT.
There is an Alumni Drinks Reception from 6pm. Booking is required for this.
About the speakers
- Millie Duckworth is a multidisciplinary artist working across film and sculpture. She creates functional objects inspired by vehicles to escape the white cube. These vehicles are used in public performances to encourage a shared passion for making and propose a new way of moving.
- Beth Flanders’ work aims to create allegorical worlds that question institutions of wealth. Through this, her process entails writing, photographing, and painting mythological stories of her own creation.
- Tegean Hughes is passionate about eclectic interiors, vibrant patterns, sculptural forms, and playful architectural details that bring personality into a space. She particularly enjoys creating mood boards and design schemes, exploring colour, texture, and materiality to develop immersive concepts. Inspired by biophilic design, she loves incorporating natural elements to create calming, balanced environments.
- Elizabeth Royle is an interdisciplinary artist working across ceramics, textiles, and print. She is a maker and material investigator, interested in how boundaries can be blurred between art and science. Her research-led practice investigates the art of looking, beyond what can be seen on the surface - how looking deeper can reveal hidden truths.
Why we do this
We believe art and design must be embedded across education, community life and economic policy. Locksbrook Campus plays a role in making visible the value of the arts in the bigger picture – supporting the artists and designers that sustain the creative sector our graduates will enter.
Opening up the campus to new communities unlocks pathways into creative education and careers for individuals who might presume it's not for them. We know engagement with the arts has a positive effect on people's lives, improving skills, wellbeing and health, while enriching the communities we live in.
Locksbrook Lates are part of our commitment to positioning Locksbrook Campus as a generator at the heart of a vibrant creative ecosystem in the southwest – building confidence in our graduates and our communities that artists, designers and makers contribute not only through the objects they make, but through the questions they ask and the way they see, translate and interact with the world around them.
