These roles not only provide financial support but also help you develop essential skills and enhance your university experience.
What are the key benefits?
- Flexible hours: Our part-time jobs are designed to fit around your academic schedule. We recommend working no more than 20 hours per week to ensure you can balance your studies, part-time work, and personal life effectively. International students should adhere to visa restrictions in relation to working hours.

What sort of part-time work is available?
We employ students across a range of departments. Here are some examples of the sorts of roles that could become available:
Bar / Cafe Steward
Department: Students' Union

Role description: Operationally running the bar and kitchen, serving, cleaning, preparing food.
Hours and flexibility: Various, around 10-15 hours per week.
Campus Life Ambassador
Department: Campus Life

Role description: Campus Life Ambassadors will support Welcome Activities across our campuses, including one position at BSU London. There are two key strands to the work:
- Accommodation: supporting the residence life programme in halls (social events, welcome talks, household visits, passing on key messages).
- Student voice and engagement: producing content for blogs/vlogs/social media campaigns on topical issues across campus.
Hours and flexibility: 5 hours per week during term time, with shifts posted to all Campus Life Ambassadors for you to opt-in and sign up. The first month of term is like to be the busiest time.

Gym Instructor

Role description: As a Gym Instructor at the Students' Union gym, you'll lead 1:1 sessions, create training plans, undertake administration and help keep the facilities clean.
Hours and flexibility: Various, around 10-15 hours per week.
Library Support Assistant

Role description: Delivering front-end library enquiry and support services to students and staff. Overseeing the building and spaces in the evening and weekends. Enabling students to collect reserved items and explore our physical and online collections via 1:1 support.
Hours and flexibility: Between 4 - 20 hours per week depending on your availability. Shifts are set around the Library's opening hours: 8am-10pm during term time.
Recruitment Period: June - September (vacancies can become available at any time of year).

Student Ambassador

Role description: Representing Bath Spa University and/or your course at a variety of on campus and external recruitment events as well as online as a Digital Ambassador through Unibuddy.
Hours and flexibility: Work opportunities are ad hoc, so you can work as much or little as you like up to 20 hours per week.

Student Career Champion

Role description: As a Champion, your main duty is to provide frontline support and guide students to the Careers and Employability services. We recruit Champions based on specific projects to ensure you gain relevant skills while contributing effectively.
Hours and flexibility: 6 hours per week, with flexible hours depending on your schedule.
Skills you’ll develop: Interpersonal, personal, digital proficiency, adaptability, career development and teamwork skills.
Student Community Leader

Role description: The purpose of this role is to embed representation within community building, social, extracurricular and development activities within each School at undergraduate level.
Hours and flexibility: 10 hours per week.
Student Outreach Ambassador
Department: Future Students

Role description: Supporting the outreach team to deliver engaging workshop activities in schools and colleges within the Bath and North East Somerset and Wiltshire regions.
This role is suitable for all students but as a key aspect is working in schools and colleges, it could be highly beneficial for Education students and/or those interested in gaining experience in an education setting.
Hours and flexibility: There are no set hours and most opportunities are ad hoc. You're free to sign up to the shifts that integrate well into your studies, putting you in control of your time.
Recruitment period: September - October, with ad-hoc opportunities throughout the year depending on specific projects.

Student Wellbeing Navigator
Department: Student Wellbeing Services

Role description: Representing Student Wellbeing Services (SWS) at a range of events, implementing a social prescribing model for peers, working alongside SWS team members within the Sitting Room service and trialling a 'buddy' system for disabled students during the transition period into university.
This role will suit students with a passion for supporting their peers and for wellbeing.
Hours and flexibility: Various – roughly 8-16 hours per week depending on wider activity. You'll be offered optional shifts that you can sign up to when you're available.
Recruitment Period: September – October.
Skills you’ll develop: Communication, confidence and supporting peers through signposting and active listening.
Various (Engagement / Office roles)
Department: Students' Union

Role description: The SU is looking for various opportunities assistants, communications assistants, welcome assistants and crew members to help with events and campaigns. We also need content creators, photographers and graphic designers who can take an 'agency' approach to communications.
Hours and flexibility: Various.
Welcome Week Ambassador

Role description: Supporting students on campus during Welcome Week with directions, how to find their Welcome Week schedule, downloading the app, student ID cards, how to register and enrol, queue management and generally providing a warm welcome.
This role is suitable for students who enjoy dealing with queries and being approached by others. You'll need to be able to work independently and in small groups.
Hours and flexibility: 5 - 20 hours per week. You'll be able to select your own shifts during Welcome Week.
Recruitment Period: May - June.
Skills you’ll develop: Communication, confidence, dealing with queries, reliability and timekeeping.
