We provide a range of short courses, both self-funded and funded by the government, that allow you to gain expert knowledge. 

Whether you're looking to reskill into a new career, start your own business or explore an interest, we have courses to suit everyone.

Our courses are designed in collaboration with external partners such as TechSPARK and Transform Digital. This means you'll learn from industry professionals and get an idea of what skills employers in your sector are looking for. Our partners include Microsoft, Adobe, the British Computer Society, and Instats.

If you're starting your own business, our short courses enable you to reach a wider client base and expand the range of services your business can offer.

Types of short courses

Skills Bootcamps

Skills Bootcamps are short courses of up to 12 weeks that allow you to build up sector-specific skills and support you towards employment. If you're looking to retrain, pursue a career in a new field or start your own business, our Skills Bootcamps are for you.

You'll receive between six and eight hours of teaching and complete around ten hours of independent study a week. Some courses are fully online, whilst others are a mixture of online and face to face teaching. 

We're delivering these in partnership with employers, providers and local authorities. These courses are fully funded by the Department for Education and help you gain skills for life, help support skills demands in your area and ultimately help you take the next step in your career journey.

Short courses

Our short courses have been designed to address identified skills gaps and demand. We're regularly developing new courses as demand changes and evolves.

These courses range from a couple of days to a few weeks. You'll have a wide range of learning opportunities that'll build your confidence and achievements, expanding  your portfolio of skills and giving you a springboard for future career goals.

Click Start

Click Start is a free eight week short course designed to help you pursue a new career. You'll develop skills in digital marketing, UI/UX design and web development to build a portfolio that'll showcase your new abilities.

Click Start is the new nationwide training programme developed by the Institute of Coding. You'll be supported through the course by a personal employability coach from Catch22 and will receive coaching for six months following your course.

FWD

FWD is a next generation skills, training, research and innovation development programme created to help businesses, employees and learners to be future ready.

It's a disruptive collaboration between Bath Spa University, B&NES Council, Bath College and University of Bath that brings together science, arts, creativity, and technology.

Course in focus: Click Start

Click Start by Bath Spa in Creative Digital Skills is a creative digital programme designed to help you pursue a new career. You'll develop next level skills in digital marketing, UI/UX design and web development to build a portfolio that'll showcase your new abilities.

Over the eight weeks you'll work on live briefs, in groups and individually, to strengthen your problem solving skills, creativity, adaptability and resilience. These are all valuable skills that employers look for.

Course in focus: FWD

FWD is a collaboration between Bath Spa University, B&NES Council, Bath College and University of Bath that brings together science, arts, creativity, and technology. These in person courses are free to take part in.

FWD has four pathways you can choose from to further your career: Digital, Enterprise, Health and Sustainability. You’ll choose one or two courses to complete. You can choose any courses across the four pathways to tailor your training to your career progression goals. Each course consists of three weeks of in person teaching and two weeks of project work from an employer.

Bath Spa University wins Creativity for Good award

Bath Spa University, its staff, and collaborative initiatives led by its partner organisations have been nominated for a grand total of eight accolades in this year's Creative Bath Awards.

The University was awarded with the Creativity for Good award for our social value work across the University, including our Skills Bootcamps.
