My World – Bath Spa University

MyWorld

MyWorld is a £30M UK Research & Innovation (UKRI) Strength in Places funded project and runs until 2026.

About the Project

MyWorld is an engineering-led R&D project, focussing on creative technologies and their use in immersive media and screen industries, including, for example, volumetric video, virtual production, and the use of AI to improve digital film shot in low-light conditions.

The project will also focus on areas such as the development of new intelligent visual and interactive technologies, enabling new forms of storytelling, visual effects, gaming and other immersive experiences, and conduct research into audience and user understanding.

Investment in accessible facilities and equipment is part of MyWorld's remit and Bath Spa University has been given £190K to help upgrade and improve facilities on site both for use within the MyWorld project and Bath Spa students, including 360 cameras, VR and ambisonic sound recording equipment, computer equipment, VR headsets, and MoCap and Haptic suits.

Experimental Productions

Bath Spa University is co-leading the Experimental Productions strand of the project. This is the storytelling heart of the programme that will engage with the public, bringing big stories and storytellers together to test technologies developed across the MyWorld programme, creating new ways of delivering and telling stories. With a remit to test and showcase the results of the programme through production of award-winning content by world-leading creatives, our research aims to highlight and understand the challenges that will inform the MyWorld R&D priorities.

Our partners in Experimental Productions include Aardman, BDH Immersive, and Bristol Old Vic. Our research themes include, for example, venues of the future, soundscaping the metaverse, and storytelling in immersive media. We hope to be able to support colleagues in applying for MyWorld fund in collaboration with industry.

Key participants

MyWorld draws together multiple partners including Bath Spa University, UWE, Watershed and the Universities of Bath and Bristol, as well as a range of industry partners.
