What you'll learn

You'll work with industry partners to engage with real-world problems around the development of new construction projects and the redevelopment of existing buildings. Through collaborative working, you'll build an awareness of building and construction, project and time management, leadership and communication, and creative problem solving.

By engaging with students and partners from across disciplines, you'll develop an understanding of the aims and values of the co-creators and stakeholders involved in developing an inclusive and sustainable built environment. As well as developing key skills that are valuable to employers, you'll create a strong portfolio to take forwards into your career.

Year one
Working on a range of projects, you’ll be introduced to the key practical and conceptual skills of construction project management. You’ll develop a good awareness of the structure of the construction industry as you start to develop your own professional practice.

Using our unique and interconnected local and regional environments as a starting point, you’ll also be introduced to the industry, social, and professional communities, and to our collective ethical and sustainability responsibilities to our environment.

Year two
Through engagement with more complex, real-world projects and practice-based, peer-to-peer learning, you’ll continue to develop your practical, creative, and professional practice skills. You’ll deepen and expand your theoretical, conceptual, and contextual knowledge around the design, operation, and reuse of buildings and spaces.

We will help you further develop practical expertise in research, project design, project management, collaboration and partnership working.

Year three
We'll help you as you use your own creativity, applied knowledge and practical skills to successfully realise real-world collaborative and interdisciplinary projects. You will consolidate your expertise and professional experience into a comprehensive portfolio that clearly presents the attributes, skills and practical knowledge you have developed on the course.
