This top up degree in Education is designed to support professionals working in schools and other educational settings looking to achieve a full BA qualification. You can study online and part time to complete your Education degree while working.
Whether you want to be an educator, policymaker or researcher, continue your studies with teacher training or postgraduate study, or dive straight into a graduate trainee scheme, a degree in education can form the basis of a career in public service. Our innovative Education degree allows you to develop a portfolio of skills that employers look for, such as creative thinking, taking initiative, networking and problem solving.
This course is available as a BA (Hons) Education top up course, studied over two years, or as a BA Education top up course, which is studied over one year.
What you'll learn
You’ll gain knowledge and understanding of:
- The aims, values and outcomes of education
- How pupils can benefit from learning in a traditional educational setting and through everyday lived experience
- Educational policy and practice, and how it can be used to promote social justice, sustainability, wellbeing and inclusion.
Year one
You’ll study evidence-based practice in the classroom and and how to apply proven methods to help students learn. You’ll also learn about student wellbeing and safeguarding in the classroom.
Year two
Learn about social and educational inclusion to create classrooms where very student feels valued, and can participate fully at school.

You'll be assessed through a range of practice-based, individual and group assignments in a range of formats. There are no timed exams.
Teaching takes place online and includes lectures, seminars and workshops.

Your course will take place online, and you will have access to these resources support your degree:
- Virtual Learning Environment, which provides online access to learning materials such as lecture slides, assessment information, discussion boards and other resources.
- Access to thousands of business, design and tech courses online via LinkedIn Learning.
- The Careers team run networking events and advisory workshops that explore your future options and the essentials of the job application process. They help you get experience by assisting with your search for work placements and paid part-time jobs while you're studying. When you're ready to progress into your chosen career, they can help you secure graduate-level employment, freelance opportunities, and funding for your own business ideas. Career support continues for years after you graduate with the dedicated Grad Support Unit.

Interested in applying?
We’re looking for applicants with an interest in improving practice in educational settings, a commitment to educational inclusion and previous experience of working in an educational setting.
We require that you have 240 Higher Education credits (120 at Level 4 and a 120 at Level 5) - in a relevant subject. These can come from the following:
- Foundation Degree in a relevant subject
- DipHE in a relevant subject
- Higher National Diploma (HND) in a relevant subject.
Once we receive your application we'll contact you for evidence of your prior study. Transcripts and certificates will then be assessed to ensure the content of the prior learning is a match for BSU provision.
English Language Requirements for International and EU Applicants
IELTS 6.0 - for visa nationals, with a minimum score of IELTS 5.5 in each element.
