BSU rises 17 places in the Nonsensical 'Top 50 UK Universities on TikTok' list
Thursday, 25 June, 2026Earlier this month, BSU’s social media accounts reached yet another milestone, with the BSU TikTok page being recognised by social media agency Nonsensical as #13 in their list of ‘Top 50 UK Universities on TikTok’.
Nonsensical is an award winning TikTok agency in the UK, known for working with brands and driving a real impact through the TikTok platform. Working with UniDays, Urban Tandoor and Uber Eats, the agency is well connected within the student – and prospective student – population.
Every year, Nonsensical releases their list of the Top UK Universities on TikTok, and each year BSU has progressed further up the league table. In recent years, they’ve made the list of universities more exclusive, going from Top 70 to Top 50.
Universities included in the report are assessed by a specific methodology that is split into 2 parts: methodology for inclusion and methodology for ranking. Overall, Nonsensical look at 5 key factors:
1. Average organic views per video,
2. Distinctiveness,
3. Deep engagement rate,
4. Reactivity, and finally
5. Posting consistency
To be considered, a university needs a TikTok account with at least 5,000 followers and enough activity across the year to be assessed fairly.
This year, BSU rose 17 places up from #30 in 2025, and now sits at #13. Scoring 67/100, BSU has certainly impressed the TikTok natives, and proves to be consistently improving.
Nonsensical’s leaderboard also gave specific awards to accounts that lead on a standout measure. This year, BSU was awarded ‘Best Reach Per Follower’, one of 10 awards spread across the board. ‘Best Reach per follower’ means the highest number of organic views per follower, so winning this enforces the tight knit, fully engaged community we have on our social media.
Describing the achievement, Nonsensical summarised:
“Bath Spa University is another uni that does student featured content and reactivity well, and is reflected in their ‘best reach per follower award’.
Their edge is their ability to jump on opportunities quickly: fast turnarounds on trends, and standout moments like their What Not to Bring to Uni video which gives the feed real personality, traveling beyond their own following, emphasising it is not all about follower count!
It is a lively, location based feed with their recurring presenter and Bath Spa branded mics to help with recognisable content, that captures the spirit of both the university and its city. An impressive climb, and a blueprint for smaller universities everywhere.”
The video showcased in the summary was one of BSU’s Top Performing videos of the year, a carousel of ‘Things NOT to bring to university’. The video sits between helpful and satirical and took TikTok by storm – amassing over 360,000 views, 2,800 shares and the highest volume of comments.
TikTok is now a huge driving force in student recruitment, with 74% of UK young people on the platform.
Reflecting on the achievement, BSU’s Head of Communication and Brand Lucy Stone, said:
“This recognition represents BSU’s commitment to engaging with our student community. Social media is a vital part of showcasing our campuses, courses and general lifestyle to prospective students, and we consistently strive to reflect our strong values within the content we produce. This rise and awarding of ‘best reach per follower’ is further commendation of the Communications team’s relentless work to always show the best that BSU has to offer.”
