Personal statement

Dr Manoj Jayabalan is a Senior Lecturer in Computer Science in the School of Design at Bath Spa University and a Senior Member of the IEEE. He has over a decade of experience in higher education, teaching and supervising students across a range of computing disciplines, including data science, artificial intelligence, machine learning, software engineering, and data analytics.

Alongside his teaching responsibilities, Dr Jayabalan works closely with Bath Spa University's academic partners as a Link Tutor, supporting programme delivery, quality enhancement, curriculum development, and student experience across partner institutions. He collaborates with academic teams to ensure the effective delivery of programmes and the maintenance of academic standards in line with University requirements.

Dr Jayabalan is an active researcher whose work focuses on the application of data-driven technologies to solve real-world challenges. His research interests include big data, data mining, machine learning, health informatics, and software engineering, with a particular emphasis on data analytics, predictive modelling, and intelligent decision-support systems. His research seeks to bridge the gap between theory and practice, generating insights that have relevance for both industry and society.

He has published nearly 100 articles in peer-reviewed journals and international conference proceedings and contributes to the wider academic community through editorial and guest editorial roles for journals and academic books, as well as reviewing for international journals and conferences. He is also actively involved in organising international conferences, delivering invited talks, and facilitating workshops on emerging digital technologies.

Dr Jayabalan is passionate about interdisciplinary collaboration, student success, and fostering partnerships between academia and industry to support innovation, knowledge exchange, and societal impact.
