Rose Hiron-Grimes – Bath Spa University

Personal statement

Rose is a Lecturer for Business and Management with a keen interest in employability and events and festivals management. Rose has a background in teaching Business, Economics and ICT at both Secondary and Further Education level, before specialising in Careers and Widening Participation. As a qualified Careers Adviser, Rose has several years’ experience supporting young people with their early career development. Through these roles, she also ran many large-scale events with employers and other stakeholders.

Before joining Bath Spa University, Rose worked for The Careers and Enterprise Company. This involved partnership work with many different businesses to make important links between employers and schools and colleges, to influence their strategic careers and employability programmes for young people.

Through studying Business and Management at Bath Spa University herself, Rose developed a love of learning and has since embarked on a journey of lifelong learning. She enjoys research and during her Master of Research (MRes), she specialised in creative research methods. Her research project focussed on the career journeys of adults that came from widening participation backgrounds through the lens of ‘Possible Selves’, using digital storytelling research methods.

Alongside her academic background, Rose also has roles volunteering for Glastonbury festival and other local organisations, specialising in volunteer management and public events.

She is keen to support students to make the most of employability opportunities whilst at university such as the placement modules and Professional Placement Year, and to develop their transferable skills in events and project management.
