Sharon Alcock – Bath Spa University

Personal statement

Broadcast journalist and filmmaker, Sharon Alcock, leads teams of tutors and industry professionals on the following modules: Documentary Filmmaking at Level 6, and Specialist Roles in Production + Advanced Short Film Production at Level 5. Sharon is the Professional Placement Tutor for FTDP.

She brings more than 30 years experience of factual content to these and the Advanced Studio Production module in Year 2, where she co-teaches with other tutors. Sharon has formerly worked for BBC News (Reporter, Correspondent and Producer), BBC Online, set up and ran an independent production company.

A keen rower for Minerva Bath and former English teacher (GCSE and A-level) in Secondary Schools, Sharon lives with a family of artists and is forever striving for more creativity.

She has interviewed three Prime Ministers, two Presidents and reported from South Africa, Germany, Northern Ireland and across the UK. She was once locked up in a young offenders' unit (for work), has been riot trained by the UK police force, and was kidnapped as part of her BBC hostile environments training. Expect the unexpected!

Sharon is proud to be a first generation university attendee in her family and attended state education schools.
