How to connect to the wifi network at Bath Spa University

What is eduroam?

eduroam (education roaming) is the secure, world-wide roaming access service developed for the international research and education community.

eduroam allows students, researchers and staff to obtain Internet connectivity across all participating institutions. More information on eduroam and where you can use it can be found on the eduroam.org website.

You can also download the eduroam Companion App which helps end users discover more about and navigate to venues that offer eduroam connectivity.

Connecting to eduroam

Staff members using a corporate laptop or PC will not need to do this step as the certificate and wireless profile is managed by the IT department.

To securely connect your PC, Mac, laptop or phone to eduroam, you will need to download the eduroam CAT Tool from cat.eduroam.org and select your home organisation Bath Spa University. You will be asked to enter you BSU username and password. This will then install the eduroam profile and certificate that ensures your connection is secure and encrypted.

What is ResNet

Not all devices can easily connect to ResNet. You may need to follow the steps below to get connected:

  1. Make a note of your device's 'MAC' address - It'll likely be in the settings, but if you need some help, just Google 'How to find MAC address for [your device]'
  2. Using a device already connected to ResNet or eduroam, log in to mydevices.bathspa.ac.uk with your username and password.
  3. Click 'Add', then fill out the details of your device.
  4. Wait a few minutes, then go back to your device and select the ResNet Wi-Fi - it should now connect successfully.

'MAC' randomisation: Some devices offer randomised 'MAC' addresses as a privacy feature. This should be switched off to use ResNet. Search 'MAC address' on MyServices for more information.
