Privacy notice for the Bath Social Impact Network including events and membership sign ups.

Bath Social Impact Network (BSIN) is the network for social enterprise and purpose driven businesses in BaNES. BSIN keeps members informed about news and opportunities relating to socially and purpose driven businesses in the Bath and North East Somerset area, and from time to time, BSIN organises in-person or virtual events. This privacy notice explains how BSIN uses your information in connection with these BSIN events and for membership purposes if you chose to join the network.

For the purposes of UK data protection laws, Bath Spa University is the data controller of the information that you provide to BSIN in connection with its events. The information we collect about you is:

  • Your name and contact details (including telephone and email address);
  • Job details and the organisation that you work for;
  • Your request(s) to attend event(s);
  • (If applicable) your request to join BSIN as a member;
  • Preferences and dietary requirements for in-person events; and
  • Any information required to run and manage the BSIN events and membership scheme.

The personal information we process is collected by us on this form, on event-specific sign up forms, or as you may tell us from time to time (eg via email updates). You can update your details by contacting us at bsin@bathspa.ac.uk. We process your information for the following reasons:

  • Keeping you informed about BSIN events and processing your requests to attend specific BSIN events;
  • Facilitating your attendance at BSIN events, including making any necessary arrangements in connection with your attendance (e.g. dietary requirements);
  • Providing information in connection with events (e.g. sharing slides, handouts or recordings after an event);
  • Keeping a database of BSIN event attendees / persons who wish to be informed about BSIN events;
  • Sending you a newsletter about BSIN events;
  • (If applicable) administering the membership of BSIN
  • Analysing the number of members according to business type.

The Bath and North East Somerset Third Sector Group CIO (Registered Charity 1181029) (“3SG”) is responsible for organising BSIN virtual events. Consequently, Bath Spa University will share your name and contact details with 3SG for the following reasons:

  • Keeping you informed about BSIN virtual events and processing your request(s) to attend specific BSIN virtual events;
  • Facilitating your attendance at BSIN virtual events, including sharing online access information;
  • Providing information in connection with events (eg sharing slides, handouts or recordings after an event).

Important note: this privacy notice relates to information you provide in connection with BSIN events, and is separate from other personal information that Bath Spa University and/or 3SG may process about you in connection with other activities. For further information please see:

We may also share certain personal information with third parties in connection with the delivery of the event (e.g. speakers, facilitators or third party venues/caterers). If you attend an event, your name and other information (e.g. job title and the organisation that you work for) may be visible to other attendees at the event (whether in person or virtual).

Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the lawful basis we rely on for processing the personal information described in this privacy notice (in connection with BSIN events) is your consent. Furthermore, you provide your specific consent for us to process information you provide to us about your health (including special dietary requirements). You are free to remove your consent at any time by contacting bsin@bathspa.ac.uk, and we will remove your personal information from our BSIN events database and we will no longer contact you via the BSIN events mailing list to tell you about BSIN events.

Your information is securely stored by us. We keep your personal information for the period of time for which you remain on the BSIN events mailing list and (if applicable) that you remain a member of BSIN. In addition, we may retain information about your participation in a specific event for up to 12 months after the event, unless we have a legitimate reason for retaining your information for longer. We may periodically contact you to check that your information is up to date.

Your rights in connection with your personal information: under certain circumstances, by law you have the right to:

  • Request access to your personal information (commonly known as a "data subject access request"). This enables you to receive a copy of the personal information we hold about you and to check that we are lawfully processing it.
  • Request correction of the personal information that we hold about you. This enables you to have any incomplete or inaccurate information we hold about you corrected.
  • Request erasure of your personal information. This enables you to ask us to delete or remove personal information where there is no good reason for us continuing to process it. You also have the right to ask us to delete or remove your personal information where you have exercised your right to object to processing (see below).
  • Object to processing of your personal information where we are relying on a legitimate interest (or those of a third party) and there is something about your particular situation which makes you want to object to processing on this ground. You also have the right to object where we are processing your personal information for direct marketing purposes.
  • Request the restriction of processing of your personal information. This enables you to ask us to suspend the processing of personal information about you, for example if you want us to establish its accuracy or the reason for processing it.
  • Request the transfer of your personal information to another party.
