Processing your application
Applications to the School of Art, School of Design or School of Music and Performing Arts
Depending on the course, you may be asked to attend an interview/audition or to provide a portfolio of work in support of your application.
Admissions will initially consider your application, and will contact you with the portfolio request, further information and guidance on what to include, and the submission deadline. Your portfolio will be assessed by the course team, and an invitation to attend an interview or audition will be sent to you from Admissions. Once again, guidance on what to prepare will be included.
As this process assesses your talent, as well as suitability for the course, the majority of offers for courses in Art, Design and Music and Performing Arts are unconditional, as we will have a strong idea that you have the abilities to succeed on the course, whatever grades you achieve.
Applications to other Schools
The Admissions Service will make a decision on your application using all the information available, including:
- Your personal statement
- Prior academic achievements
- Your predicted grades
In most cases, you'll receive a conditional offer specific to the qualifications you are studying towards. If you already have your Level 3 qualifications in hand, then most likely you'll receive an unconditional offer.
Here's a taste of some of the applicant events we run throughout the year:
University Experience Days
Our virtual University Experience Days provide an opportunity for you to find out more about your specific course. Chat with staff and students during our live Q+A sessions, get a glimpse into your future with video interviews with our graduates, or check out our inspiring campuses and facilities with a live virtual tour.
University Experience Weeks
Discover what it's like being part of the Bath Spa community during our virtual University Experience Week. We've curated the week to cover everything you need to know about transitioning to university. There's no need to book a place and you're welcome to dip in and out during the week as you wish.
Invites to applicant events are sent via email. If you're an applicant with an offer and have not received an invitation, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Make us your firm choice
If you submitted your application by the Equal Consideration Deadline in January and have decisions from all the courses you applied for, then you're ready to make your decision. UCAS will email you the deadline by which time you need to choose your firm and insurance choice. You can only choose one firm and one insurance choice, and decline any other offers.
If you received a conditional offer from us, then once we have your results - either provided to us from UCAS or from you, if your qualifications are not part of the UCAS scheme - we'll make a decision on whether to confirm your place with us or not. If your grades match or exceed your offer, then your place is guaranteed.
On Results Day you should check your UCAS Track account first - it usually opens at 8:00 AM. This will show whether or not your place at your firm choice has been confirmed. You should also check your email account, as we'll also write to you to let you know your place is confirmed. If we have been unable to confirm your place, perhaps because of missing results, we'll also write to you to explain.
If your grades are below your offer, then the Admissions Service will reconsider your application as a whole and decide whether or not to confirm your place. Admissions will consider how much below offer you are and if there are still places available on the course. We appreciate the disruption caused by the pandemic in 2020 and 2021 to schools and colleges and students' abilities to fully participate in their learning. This will be taken into account, and we'll show as much flexibility as we can. We always look to confirm your place where possible.
Accepted your place?
You’ll receive joining instructions in late August or early September. All communications over the summer will be by email, so make sure you keep an eye on the email account you provided on your application.
If you'd like to discuss your offer, or have any questions about the process, please contact the Admissions team by emailing email@example.com.
