Our selection processes – Bath Spa University

From entry requirements to interviews, here's how our selection process works.

Entry requirements

Qualifications we accept

We welcome applicants who hold a wide variety of different qualifications, including A Levels, BTECs, Access to Higher Education Diplomas, the Cambridge Pre-U, Foundation courses, Scottish Advanced Highers, the International, French, European and Welsh Baccalaureate.

You can find the entry requirements for each course on their course webpage. If you’re an international applicant, you can also check the entry advice for students from your country.

Don't have formal qualifications?

If you lack formal qualifications you can undergo Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL), which could give you access to study.

We may award credit for successfully assessed experiential learning and/or for learning accredited by other institutions of higher education or other bodies recognised by the University for this purpose.

Scrutiny of prior learning for the purpose of the recognition by the University of credit towards a named award is undertaken by academic staff.

Accreditation may be used for:

  • admission to a programme of study;
  • awarding credit to allow admission to a programme of study at a point subsequent to initial entry (advanced standing);
  • the recognition of credit toward an award of the University.

Auditions, interviews and portfolios

Some of our courses require an interview or audition. Any communication inviting you to interview will be by email. UCAS Track will display the date of your interview or audition.

Any criteria to help you prepare for the interview/audition will be sent to you in advance.

Conditions of offer not met

If you don’t  meet the conditions of your offer, your place here may still be confirmed. At point of confirmation we will reassess your application and if there are still places on the course, we may be able to make you an offer or confirm your place.

Unsuccessful applicants

Your application may have been unsuccessful for a number of reasons including:

  • Not meeting entry requirements;
  • Your interview or audition not meeting the same standard as other applicants;
  • Reasons given in the course leader's general advice.

After considering the above points, we welcome you to contact the admissions office for feedback if you have further queries. You should contact the admissions office by email within two weeks of receiving the unsuccessful decision at admissions@bathspa.ac.uk. You’ll hear back from us by email or UCAS track.
