Class of 2026 immortalise writing in MA anthologies

Tuesday, 2 June, 2026

The work of Bath Spa University’s MA Creative Writing and Writing for Young People courses has been captured in two anthologies, available to agents and publishers, and recognised at an event in London.

Each year, students on the MA Creative Writing and MA Writing for Young People courses produce a publication of their best work. An opportunity to showcase samples, the end product is a result of their hard work and creativity. Entirely student-led, the project empowers graduates to take full creative control, from overseeing the project all the way to its launch, to its editorial design, production, Illustration, marketing and even the launch event.

Aptly reflecting the legacy of its contributors, the anthologies encapsulate the changes and improvements their work has undergone throughout the course. MA Creative Writing student, Sarah Van de Kamp, said:

“It's a milestone. It's something tangible to hold at the end of this year-long journey. As part of the Anthology team, it was inspiring to witness first-hand how this compelling showcase of creative, insightful writing came together.”

The MA Creative Writing anthology, titled New Suns, covers genres such as literary fiction, contemporary fiction, folk horror, autofiction, hybrid/poetry, and even bildungsroman, shedding new light on the age-old stories of exploration, loss, family, and finding your way.

Reflecting on her experience throughout the process, MA Creative Writing student, Lucy Kelleher said:

“The collegiate spirit was extraordinary – there were no rivals, only like-minded creatives working collaboratively to critique each other’s work and get it to its best possible version. The rigor in the application process really showed in the standard of work across the board – so you really felt pushed and challenged to give your best.”

Emulating the feeling of not being able to put down a book, the MA Writing for Young People anthology was titled Spellbound and features both verse and prose for children and young people, spanning lower and upper middle grade through to young adult audiences.

The collection brings together a wide range of genres, including comedy, adventure, horror, and fantasy, while showcasing an eclectic mix of themes and perspectives drawn from all walks of life, reflecting the cohort’s diversity and the breadth of experiences that shaped it.

Discussing his experience on the course, MA Writing for Young People student Sam Spier said:

“The MA Writing for Young People has been the best thing I’ve done in my entire life. Not only are the tutors absolutely fantastic, but the course allows you to really engage with the craft of writing for young people in the best, most engaging way. I have met a community of talented, wonderful people, who I count as friends for life. I would do it all again if I could!”

The class of 2026 celebrated their success at launch events in London, marking the release of their work and attended by top literary agents and editors. To date, ten students have signed with literary agents since the launch of the anthologies.
