Paul Smith Appointed Director of Estates at Bath Spa
Thursday, 2 April, 2026Bath Spa University is pleased to announce the appointment of Paul Smith as its new Director of Estates. Paul joined the University to lead the strategic management and development of the institution’s estate, supporting BSU’s commitment to providing inspiring, sustainable, and high-quality environments for learning, teaching, and research.
With extensive experience in estates management, facilities operations, and campus development, Paul brings a strong track record of delivering complex infrastructure projects and leading multidisciplinary teams. In his new role, he will oversee the long-term development and maintenance of Bath Spa University's campuses and facilities.
Formerly at Bournemouth University and the University of Bristol, Paul will play a key role in advancing the University’s Estates strategy, ensuring that buildings, grounds, and infrastructure continue to support the needs and positive experiences of students, staff, and the wider community. His leadership will also contribute to BSU’s ambitions around environmental sustainability and responsible estate stewardship.
Commenting on the appointment, Professor Rebecca Schaaf, Senior Pro Vice-Chancellor at Bath Spa University said:

Paul took up the position of Director of Estates at the end of March 2026.
