Bath Social Impact Network celebrates its one year anniversary

Friday, 26 January, 2024

Since its launch in January 2023, Bath Social Impact Network (BSIN) has successfully run 13 events for its members, with another six set to take place over the next two months.

Launched as a partnership between Bath Spa University and 3SG, Bath Social Impact Network is the first of its kind in Bath and North East Somerset (B&NES), aimed at bringing together groups and individuals specifically from social enterprises with a shared purpose of improving and growing the social economy in B&NES.

The network, which has over 120 members, was created with social enterprises at the heart, along with B Corps, CICs, co-ops, and those interested in the work of these types of organisations. BSIN has held events exploring topics including the funding landscape of B&NES, social enterprise accreditation and how network members can collaborate in the future.

In September, BSIN launched its Social Investment Programme, which, in collaboration with organisations such as Cool Ventures and Stone King LLC, offers Bath residents free workshops and mentoring to help with sharpening their business plan, understanding what types of investment are available for their organisation, and helping them to increase the impact their organisation is making.

Bath Spa University has been recognised for the success of the network, which contributed to the two finalist rankings Bath Spa received at the UK Social Enterprise Awards, in the UK Social Enterprise of the Year and the Community-Based Social Enterprise Award categories. The University also was awarded the Creativity for Good award at the 2023 Creative Bath Awards for its social value work.

Looking back on BSIN’s work, Hannah Whiting, Head of Business Development at Bath Spa University, said:

“As a university we strive to support not just our students but our community. Bath Social Impact Network is a unique offering in B&NES and has brought together over 120 likeminded individuals to explore how we can grow the social impact in the region. We’re excited to celebrate our one year anniversary and continue to support local social enterprises this year.”

Looking forward to 2024, Bath Social Impact Network is continuing to support local businesses and organisations by running workshops on business finances, how to promote social enterprises, community shares and social investment.

They’ll also be running their first networking event of the year on the 30 January, in which Isobel Michael will be exploring how Giving Circles are changing the face of philanthropy and BSIN will celebrate its one-year anniversary with its members.
