Bath Spa achieves Fairtrade University status

Striving to make the world a better place is central to Bath Spa University’s ethos and now it is one step closer to achieving that ambition as it has officially become a Fairtrade University.

The Fairtrade University and College Award has been jointly delivered by the Fairtrade Foundation and Students Organising for Sustainability UK (SOS-UK).

The accreditation is awarded to institutions in recognition of their ability to embed ethical and sustainable practices through their curriculum, procurement, research and campaigns.

Bath Spa University’s overarching sustainability vision is to create sustainability-minded, socially-engaged global citizens, by using sustainability principles — such as those recognised by its fairtrade status — to guide its values, actions and curricula, and by leading by example.

Julian Greaves, Sustainability Manager at Bath Spa University, said:

“We are thrilled to have regained the Fairtrade University status. The award was a collaboration from many departments within the University and a result of great work conducted by our Sustainability Ambassadors. 

“Our Fairtrade University status helps support our Anti-Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement, our Sustainability Policy and Sustainable Food Policy, and ensures our purchasing continues to have a positive impact. Well done to all who helped us achieve this fantastic result.”
