Postgraduate students reanimate The Holburne Museum with an evening of performance and art

Thursday, 16 May, 2024

As part of SparkFest and Party in the City, Bath Spa University postgraduate students will be taking over The Holburne Museum on 17 May, responding to the collection, the space and the history of the Museum in a playful, cross-disciplinary collaboration that combines artwork, music and dance.

Throughout the evening the museum will be reanimated with contemporary artworks and site-specific performance from MA Dance and MA Fine Art students.

The event will also act as a private view for the launch of seven new artworks created by students on Fine Art, Photography and Ceramics MA pathways. The works will be exhibited throughout the museum over a two-week period and there will be a map available at reception to help visitors locate the works.

Dr Charlie Tweed, Programme Leader of Postgraduate Art at Bath Spa University, said:

"This is a brilliant opportunity and provides some excellent professional practice experience for our MA Fine Art students who got the chance to pitch their proposals for new artworks to the museum's curators, and also to collaborate with MA Dance students on new performance works."

The Holburne Museum is one of BSU’s 15 partner organisations across the creative and cultural sector in Bath. The partnership builds on a decades-long relationship between the Museum and the University that enables both institutions to explore and develop shared goals of excellence in arts enterprise and education.

Through the partnership, The Holburne Museum provides opportunities for collaborative research, exhibitions, publications and projects and opportunities for students and staff to expand their personal and professional development.

Play the Museum will take place at The Holburne Museum on Friday 17 May, 6pm - 8.30pm. More information about the works featured can be found on the MA Dance and MA Fine Art Instagram accounts.
