Vice-Chancellor honoured as Royal Society of Edinburgh Fellow

Bath Spa University's Vice-Chancellor Professor Sue Rigby has been named as one of The Royal Society of Edinburgh's (RSE) intake of Fellows for 2022.

Sue – who is Honorary Professor at the University of Edinburgh – is one of only 80 individuals from the arts, business, public service, civil society and academia to be recognised this year. They will be joining the RSE’s current Fellowship of around 1,700 Fellows, who are deemed to be some of the greatest thinkers, researchers and practitioners working in or with Scotland today.

Sue commenced her role as Vice-Chancellor of Bath Spa University in January 2018 and is a palaeontologist by background. After being an academic at Cambridge, Leicester and Edinburgh she moved into senior management, first as Assistant Principal, then Vice Principal at the University of Edinburgh, and Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Student Development at the University of Lincoln.

Commenting on her latest achievement, Professor Sue Rigby said:

"I am delighted to become part of this group of people, who are intent on using their combined abilities to make a tangible difference to society and wellbeing."

This year’s cohort represents the diversity of expertise within Scotland and the UK, with academics, leaders from business, Scotland’s tech sector, the legal sector and arts and culture industries being inducted to the Fellowship.

With a more diverse Fellowship, the RSE hopes to make even more of an impact across its policy, research and engagement work which seeks to address the key contemporary issues of the day.
