Course: BA (Hons) Acting

I am 22 and originally from Brighton. I have just finished an Acting degree at Bath Spa University. My career goals include writing and starring in sitcoms, stand-up comedy, stage acting, and I am currently considering studying acting at postgraduate level. Alongside acting, I am looking to gain my yoga teacher qualification so I can earn extra money doing what I love on the side.

I am currently working with Fast, Fresh and Dirty comedy club, developing a new podcast and busy writing sitcoms. Since leaving university I have gone on to win a comedy competition in association with Fast, Fresh and Dirty. I now hope to move to Bristol where I can start progressing my career further.

Why did you choose the Acting course at Bath Spa?

I was drawn to the Acting course because of the opportunity in third year to make a sitcom, as well as weekly classes in comedy over the first two years. I also loved the movement element of the course as physical theatre is a potential career path for me.

What were the highlights of your time here?

Filming sitcoms in the television studios was the highlight of my time here. Other modules I enjoyed include; new acting dramaturges, Shakespeare and a module in composition. At the end of first year I created a Yoga Society which has grown to nearly 400 followers in the past two years, and has been nominated for Most Improved Society. I am currently being considered for President's award.

How did the course support your steps into industry?

We were given regular presentations by professionals in the industry including talks by Spotlight, The Mandy Network, Equity and more. We were provided with headshots and had a whole module dedicated to becoming a professional actor.

"The best thing about the course..."

The best thing about the course is the relationships you make with your peers.

"I am most proud of..."

I am most proud of my role as President and founder of the Yoga Society, which will continue after I graduate.

"My advice for current students..."

My advice to current students would be to avoid perfection; focusing on grades and doing it right hinders any spontaneity. Also joining a society is a great way to expand your skills and gives you a break from the course.

"I recommend Bath Spa because..."

I recommend Bath Spa because you have the opportunity to study something you love, with amazing facilities on a beautiful campus.
