Changing the Game: How graduates David Jackson and Ash Liguori are revolutionising entertainment at We Are Reach

When you think of Bath, you think of Jane Austen, or Romans having a wash. You’d be forgiven, in your game of word association, for overlooking video games. However, what if we told you that Bath and its surrounding areas are becoming a blossoming hub for the industry? And what if we also told you that two BSU graduates are helping power one of its biggest players?

David Jackson, Commercial Music graduate and Co-Founder of We Are Reach, and Ash Liguori, Media Communications graduate and Editorial Lead at PlayStation Access, are doing exactly that.

Two pioneers in the video games and entertainment space, Dave and Ash are now working together to bring PlayStation’s - amongst many other clients’ - marketing and social media channels to life, and they’re doing it right in the heart of Bath.

Dave founded We Are Reach in 2017 with friends and colleagues Rob and Nathan, following a period of discovering his passions through a variety of different roles.

As Dave said himself:

“I always knew I wanted to do something creative, but I struggled for the first two years after uni. I didn’t have much of a plan and really struggled to get a job. I did an internship at a local magazine before moving to London, where I discovered my passion for video editing and started to develop those skills further.

“I wanted to move back to Bath and found a job at Future Publishing that I thought I would be perfect for, which I was lucky enough to get. There, I met loads of new people and had the opportunity to work on a new contract: PlayStation Access.”

Working as part of the PlayStation Access team to provide key information to players through video content, Dave helped the burgeoning YouTube channel quickly reach one million subscribers.

As Dave explained:

“We didn’t want to be corporate; we wanted to talk to gamers in the same way they would speak about games themselves.

Off the back of that success, we had the chance to start our own company with PlayStation as our only client. We managed to get ourselves a small office in Bath and have been growing ever since.”

We Are Reach has grown exponentially in the near decade since its launch, with the team now working with major brands such as Netflix and Lionsgate, branching out to become a home for both video games and entertainment more broadly.

Ash joined We Are Reach in 2024, starting as TikTok Lead before becoming Editorial Lead for PlayStation Access towards the end of 2025.

A beneficiary of BSU’s Graduate Internship Programme, Ash entered her dream industry straight out of university. As she explained:

“I managed to get a job straight out of uni, thanks to Bath Spa, doing something I loved. I started out doing a short internship before being made full-time and was working in the video game industry straight after graduating.

“I didn’t think video editing was a career I could have. I didn’t think working in video games was a career I could have. But straight out of uni, I had both, and that felt really magical to me.”

Despite the success they enjoy now, both Dave and Ash were quick to reflect on the challenges they faced before landing their dream roles.

As Dave reflected:

“I didn’t realise how difficult and emotional the journey of finding a career was going to be. You really start doubting yourself and how much you know. I applied for loads of jobs in the first six months after graduating and only got one interview — and I didn’t get the job.

“It’s important to remember that you’re really early in your career when you graduate. You could explore a path that’s not for you and still have plenty of time. It’s great to have other things occupying your mind and helping you develop your skills.”

Touching on advice for recent graduates and students, Ash said:

“If you don’t know what you’re doing when you come out of uni, that’s completely normal. Apply for things you think you’re right for but also don’t be afraid to apply for things that you might not seem right for. You might not be right on paper, but you may be the right person when the company meets you.”

Now a company with 29 employees and countless high-profile clients, We Are Reach is helping amplify the voices of the games, shows and films we all love. Their reach — pun very much intended — looks set to grow for years to come, with Dave and Ash both playing key roles in that journey.

Reflecting on his journey, Dave concluded:

“I have to pinch myself every day to make sure it’s all real. The fact I get to work with people who feel the same way I do about work, and that we get to share in this really creative, collaborative thing, is a massive privilege.”
