Business students raise nearly £3,000 for local charities

Monday, 1 March, 2021

Bath Spa University students on the BA (Hons) Business and Management (Festivals and Events) course have raised almost £3,000 for local charities.

Final year students on the course are required to plan, manage and host an event as part of their assessment. Usually, this would mean organising events at clubs, venues and other physical spaces.

However, due to Covid-19 restrictions, this year’s students took to online event management. They created ingenious ways around lockdown limitations, hosting a wide range of virtual events that included fitness sessions, escape rooms, open mic nights, yoga and meditation classes and cocktail parties.

Many of these events acted as fundraisers for charities to which the students felt a personal connection, including Julian House, Meningitis NowCoppaFeel and Bath Mind. Together, the students raised almost £3,000.

Darren Hoad, Senior Lecturer in Business and Management, said:

“I was immensely proud of the charitable spirit of our students who turned the challenges and constraints of Covid-19 into something positive. The creativity and innovation involved in delivering high quality online events was very impressive. This whole exercise, and many others like it, demonstrates the positive role our students play in the local community”.
