Introduction to Screenprinting - Cut it like Matisse
Short course
Learn how to use the silkscreen process to create big, bold and colourful works using stencils and hand-drawn imagery, inspired by Henri Matisse.
- Create your own printed artwork inspired by Matisse’s final collection.
- Gain experience in a printing studio and discover the process of transferring designs onto silkscreens.
- Collaborate with your fellow participants to crate big and bold designs using only paper and scissors.
Explore the vibrant world of Screenprinting through the lens of Henri Matisse’s paper cut-outs. This one-day course is ideal for beginners or those looking to refresh their skills in a creative, supportive studio environment.
You’ll first learn how to “draw with scissors” and then create bold, abstract designs using paper stencils. You will then expose these shapes onto screens and print in layers to produce colourful, collaborative works on paper.
Working both individually and as a group, you’ll gain a strong foundation in Screenprinting techniques – from stencil-making and screen preparation to printing and registration.
At the end of the course, you’ll have produced a selection of prints to display, including your own design.
