Learn about the traditional technique of Etching in this six-week course, using metal plates and acid to etch your own designs. You’ll then print from the plates using a large Rochat etching press.
This course is ideal for those who have some printing experience but also for budding artists who would like to have a go. All are welcome, just prepare to get creative and inky in our stunning workshop.
You’re encouraged to attend all three terms; Monotype, Drypoint and Collograph; Relief Printmaking and Etching as you develop your individual ideas, however this is not necessary.
Overview
This course will take place at Locksbrook Campus, Bath, BA1 3EL.
The next course takes place:
- Monday 20 April 2026 for eight weeks, Mondays 6pm – 8:30pm. You’ll receive six weeks of teaching and two weeks off for bank holidays.
This short course costs £195 per person.
Come with sketches, doodles, photos or text which inspire you. Some materials will be included in the course fee and more will be available to buy at cost price.
Meet the team
Jane Randfield has 30 years experience of printmaking, both as an artist and as an educator. She has been working as technical demonstrator at Bath Spa University for 22 years and previously taught adult classes in printmaking at Bath College.
She has been a freelance illustrator for several decades working on commissions both national and international.
She has written reviews and articles for Printmaking Today, Pressing Matters and the SWE publication Multiples.
She is a member of The Society of Wood Engravers and regularly exhibits with them in their annual touring exhibitions.
