Learn how to cut your own lino-block and produce a series of prints, following in the footsteps of other notable relief printmakers such as Albrect Durer, Eric Ravilious, Angie Lewin and Kathe Kollwitz.

  • Transform your ideas into lino-block designs, and how to cut these safely.
  • Discover different methods of printing, including using traditional tools and vintage presses, as well as printing by hand.
  • Produce A5 linocut prints using your own ideas, drawings and photos.

In this one-day Linocut Printmaking course you'll learn how to cut and print your own lino-block, using specialist papers, excellent facilities and extensive equipment available at Locksbrook Campus.

Jane Randfield, Technical Demonstrator: Etching and Lithography at Bath Spa University, will guide you throughout the day, supporting you to develop your ideas into print using this traditional process.

You'll be shown how to transfer your idea to the lino-block and how to safely cut it, followed by an afternoon printing using traditional tools and vintage presses, as well as printing by hand. Please bring any ideas, sketches or photos that you would like to develop.

This course is for all levels; from those who wish to enhance their own artistic work to beginners who would like to try a new process.

Meet the team

Jane Randfield has 30 years experience of printmaking, both as an artist and as an educator. She has been working as technical demonstrator at Bath Spa University for 22 years and previously taught adult classes in printmaking at Bath College.

She has been a freelance illustrator for several decades working on commissions both national and international.

She has written reviews and articles for Printmaking Today, Pressing Matters and the SWE publication Multiples.

She is a member of The Society of Wood Engravers and regularly exhibits with them in their annual touring exhibitions.
